::: HOW TO PLAY :::
Here is a quick breakdown of some of the mechanics found in King of the Streets.
- BASICS IN ATTACKING
To win a round, the player must use their fighter's attack moves to damage the opponent, and block or dodge the opponent's attacks. Each fighter may attack from a standing or crouching position, or they may jump in to the air and attack. To attack from a standing position, press any single attack button. To attack from a crouching position, press down (including both diagonals) and press any single attack button. To attack from the air, direct your character to jump straight up, or jump in a diagonal position, and press any single attack button in mid-air.
- BASICS IN DEFENSE
To block an attack, a player must push back when the opponent attacks (otherwise, pressing back moves the player away from the opponent.) Blocking can be done standing which blocks middle and high attacks, as well as attacks in the air, but does not block attacks which are low to the ground. Blocking can also be down crouching by pressing down and back. A Crouching block will successfully block low and middle attacks. High attacks will usually go over your character's head if they are crouching, but a crouching block does not defend against air attacks or overhead attacks.
- UNIQUE ATTACKS
Each fighter in KING OF THE STREETS has 2 unique strong attacks they can use anytime during a fight. By holding forward and pressing hard punch or hard kick, your fighter will doing a strong kick or punch. These attacks are similar to hard attacks and can cancel any low or medium attack.
- DASHING
By pressing forward, forward your fighter will dash towards your opponent. Use this to quickly rush into your opponent. The forward dash can be cancelled into an attack or jump (forward jumps from the dash allow you to travel further).
By pressing back, back your fighter will dash away from your opponent. During the first 4 frames of the dash back animation, you’re invulnerable to ALL attacks. This will allow your fighter to get out quickly if needed. During your dash back, you’re able to cancel it into a jump back or jump forward. This gives you plenty of options for counter attacks. - THROWING
Throws are executed by pressing either low punch and high punch for a backward throw or low kick and high kick for a forward throw. A backward throw will throw your opponent behind you, swaping sides. A forward throw will knock the opponent down in front of you. Throws are unblockable and should be used when your opponent is continually blocking attacks. Some fighters have command throws (throws that are activated via a command) which allow them to cancel attacks into them, so you need to be ready for them.
- SPECIAL ATTACKS
In addition to normal attacks there are attacks known as command moves and special moves. A special move is a move that requires a more complicated directional button combination and an attack button to perform. Special attacks can be blocked like any other attack. Most special moves have a pause associated with them that leave you vulnerable to attack if you miss the opponent, or "whiff".
Check each fighters move lists to see how to perform their special attacks.
- RAGE BAR AND RAGE MOVES
A RAGE move is a move that requires a more complicated directional button combination and 2 attack buttons to perform (usually x2 punches or kicks). RAGE moves are far more powerful than special moves and can only be performed when you have a full RAGE bar. RAGE moves can cancel normal attacks and special attacks, so can turn the tide of battle if set up correctly.
Your RAGE bar sits under your health bar and fills when you do attacks or twice as fast when you take damage. When it is full, you’ll then be able to use your RAGE move. When you use your RAGE move, your RAGE bar will empty (even if you miss).
- WAKE UP INTO CROUCH
If your fighter is knocked down, you are able to wake up into crouch position by holding down. This will allow you to quickly prepare for the next wave of attacks.
- JUST DEFENDS AND COUNTERS
In KING OF THE STREETS you can get RAGE bar bonuses by doing certain actions during a fight.
Just defends are awarded when you block at the last possible moment. Counters are awarded when you hit an opponent while they are in an attacking animation.
